We make such an effort to keep baits on the bottom because that's where a lot of the food is, but there are times when something a little more subtle is required. Sometimes you just have to put the bait in the fish's way and let it wiggle. Drop-shotting puts the bait up off the bottom, where th fish can see it. You place the hook on the line, "X" inches above the weight according to the cover and let their curiosity get the best of them. A bait dragged, hopped or swam along the bottom or around cover will catch the aggressive feeders , but we're after the lethargic fish - the pressured fish... the fish that are either in a neutral state or just plain aren't hungry. All fish are curious, but what really makes this technique work so well is its ability to bring out their selfish nature. Once you get their attention, there's usually one fish that wants to make sure he gets the food before the others, even if he isn't hungry. They just can't stand to have it hang there, vibrating enticingly right in front of their nose. The rods we use for this technique are special in their own right. The actions are extra-fast, but the tips are light so the angler can impart a subtle wiggle to the bait without a lot of wasted motion. Sometimes you just let it sit there and get good results. It doesn't take a hard hook-set to get the fish, but rather a quick "lift" of the rod. We design the tip extra soft so that the fish can mouth the bait without a lot of resistance from the rod, but the magnum taper allows the rod to load up so quickly that once you lift it, the fish is hooked and 95 times out of 100 it will be hooked dead center in the upper lip. We make two different power ratings... one for light line and open water situations, which includes a GLX version, and one that's slightly stiffer for deep-water and brushy situations where you need a little more power to get the fish to the boat. For those anglers that prefer casting to spinning, we make a casting rod in both "fiber blend technology" model as well.

This rod has an action like a true
ultra-light with a magnum powered butt-section. That's where we come up with
the "mag-light" power rating. It is designed for open water and
depths of up to around 30'. It'll work well for largemouth and spots, but
where it really shines is for smallmouth... stubborn, picky, selective
smallmouths, and it doesn't matter where. One second they're checking out the
bait and the next thing they know, they're in the boat! Advantage angler!

Designed for deep-water applications and
fishing around cover, this rod is especially effective for spotted bass in
treetops like you'll find on
Georgia's
Lake
Lanier
or on steep rocky points like
Lay
Lake in
Alabama.
Soft enough in the tip-section to be effective, yet powerful enough to keep
you and your fish out of trouble and you can use a little heavier weight and
heavier line.
